A pinata is always fun towards the end of the party, stuffed with scary things (like spider rings etc..)and goodies.
Have your husband or a friend dress up like a creature and sit him in spidery cob webb filled corner, tell him or her to stand still holding a black basket ( you spray paint it) filled with candies or gum or cupkakes, then when they approach have him/her reach out with the other hand. The kids will have a startle and a great blast.
give the kids each a plastic spoon and fill a small bucket with candy corns then at the other end of the room put for each team a cup.
Get set go and have the kids take turns for their teams fill their cup with the corn see who gets most in in set amount of time.

My favortie Idea magazine is Family Fun. They have a web site familyfun.com. There is alse the Oriental trading company that has all sorts of fun novelty items. Sometimes you can get ideas from just seeing the kind of toys and decorations that are out there.
