You tell him that you will not live your life with an alcoholic. Then it's his choice what to do about it.

Don't back down and don't give in.

If he says he's not an alcoholic, then just tell him
"not yet, your not". Then leave things in his hands.

He's been warned. If he doesn't stop drinking, or stop drinking so much then leave and don't look back.

That is the best favor you can do for yourself, and in the long run, him too possibly.

Be firm and be serious and stand your ground.

best of luck,

J

If this is truly your B/F then you either attracted to wounded souls and feel you can save him or you yourself have a self-destructive layer you may or may not even know you have yet......especially in your early 20's.......My advice is don't focus on his flaws b/c the more attention his flaws get....the more they are bolstered for their purpose in this case self-destruction.........Let him have his own fears( i fear for his life) I'm sure you have enough for yourself ..........Whatever you focus on is what will grow...

Be a good friend and help him focus on things that make him happy not remind him of the reason why he drinks.....if everything reminds him of why he drinks.....help him find things non-drinking related things that make him happy.......it will only strengthen your friendship. Good Luck!

The only thing that you can do to help is to encourage him to go to rehab before he kills someone or himself. All it takes to have someone admitted is a family member and a friend.

I had a b/f like that. I broke up with him, he was pretty upset, but I wasn't going to put myself though all that. He was making his own choices.
