I remember I went on a trip back in the 80's--before IPODs and in-car tv's, etc.--and we were driving from California to Utah, and the DJ of the only radio station in the area fell asleep and the song "Our House" by Madness played 23 times in a row! My parents learned all the words to that song and still remember it to this day!! Luckily, there are things you can bring on long car trips. I highly recommend getting Podcasts of shows (such as Phil Hendrie!)
Also, if you're not in a real hurry, exit some of the side roads and see what's out there. You might discover something really cool and meet some interesting people. When my family goes out to Vegas, we take some of the side roads--like Route 66--and see some pretty cool (and weird) stuff. Before you go on your trip, get one of those Off The Beaten Path books.
Or stop at a couple places to eat. It breaks some of the monotony of the trip.

Well, solo, I would pay more attention to the road more than anything, but you could get some of your favorite songs, and rock out to them. As a group, bring everyones fave type of music so you all can really see what they like. Bring Crosswords, Word Seaches. Or you can do 20 questions as a group or sing Corney songs. You can buy disposable cameras for everyone in the car so they can take pictures non stop from every angle and everyone will be in them. Pics will mean a lot later on. Any you'll always remember it. Especially if you have children going with you.

I do this like once a month. With 3 kids and a husband with me I don't have to worry about what to do to pass the time. It's already decided what I'll be doing. Stopping fights, threatening to pull over (which I never do cause I'm ready to get there already), stopping every couple hours for the bathroom......you get it,right?? And I blare the music a lot to drown out the yelling in the back seat! Oh what fun. Gotta do it this weekend!

I like to listen to books on tape also I try to guesstimate what time we will arrive you know time times rate equals distance. I also like to look around at the scenery and make up jokes. Sleep to so I am rested when I get there. It is always a bit easier be the driver. I find times passes faster when I am driving. Listen to some tunes too.

I will definitely sleep if I am not the driver. Sleep for the whole 6 hours.
If I were the driver, I will scream & make a din to wake up the others, since I will be sleepy too if they are sleeping (which they will most likely be doing in the car)

if you're alone...sorry no suggestions there, gotta keep your eyes on the road! if you have "road dawgs" aka other passengers, you can play games, 20 questions, the states game-thats where when ya see a car with a diff. state plates, you try to be the first to punch someone and yell the state...you could always sing songs too...have fun!

automobile plate video games. initiate by making use of finding for the 1st plate that has an "A". Or if numbers are the 1st on Aussie license plates, initiate with "a million". while see "A" or "a million", by way of fact the 1st character you have killed that character. Onto the subsequent: "B" or "2". you could adjust this activity in any and each way. you could separate states, or pass to the subsequent type. Washington state plates initiate with numerals, accompanied by making use of letters. My spouse began with a million-ninety 9, and finally worked her way as much as 137. She used to holiday eighty miles consistent with day.
