it's very easy to blame advertisers, but the actual problem starts in the home. If parents educate their children about food they learn good eating habits, the trouble is many parents haven't learned good eating and dietary habits either. It's much easier these days to throw everything into a microwave, everyone wants everything 'right now' in today's society, so children eat a diet of prepacked ready meals, frozen chips, pizzas, burgers.
Advertisers just plug into this and they have a ready audience out there willing to satisfy the need, buying foods without even reading the label, or learning about fats and salts and sugars, additives, preservatives, colourings.
Jamie Oliver is trying his hardest to change peoples ideas and provide a healthy alternative in schools and there are still parents willing to buy chips from the chip shop and pass them through the school railings. it's their decision to do this, so the ultimate consequence has to be theirs as well.
We are living in the first generation where children are expected to die before their parents.

I have a different look on this subject

As a society we have made life so easy for our self that why would you want to work hard for something? losing weight is hard work. not eating, running, Staying in shape is hard work, and most of the time boring. there are so many other things that we could be doing that is more fun.

I am going thur this right now, I jog 4 to 5 times a week 3-5 miles per run. I have been doing this since May and I have only lost 12 lbs and I am not a little guy. I know that I will keep it up and it will work, but there is no gradifation for all of the work that I have done.

A lot of people would not keep going, they see something that doesnt work right away and drop it.

Also Air conditoning. Think about it, when it is a 100 outside and you are outside the last thing you want to do it eat, but when it is 73 in side sitting down and eating sound pretty good

Parents since they don't feed their kids veggies/fruits and don't encourage them to be active. Also, the media could also be blamed (tv, video games) since theyre constantly taking out new video games, new shows and kids just want to be watching/playing. Fast food restaurants and the food given at school can also be blamed for childrens obesity*

100% parents up to the age where the child can drive!
The parents are responsible for putting their children in extra-curricular sports, as wel as limiting computer and TV time.
Parents should make intelligent decisions when feeding their family, not just for their children's weight but for their health.
Parents should choose plenty of veggies, fruits and natural snacks and meals that are relatively low fat.
When it comes to school, the parents can simply pack their child a nutritious lunch .

The parents are if it is not a medical problem. we use to play outside all day. and when the street lights came on most of us where either in the house or playing kick the can or hide and go seek or everyone was sitting on somebody's lawn just talking and cracking or telling scary jokes. I made my kids play outside till it was dark, then they ate, got showers and put pj's on then they were allowed to watch tv till bed time.

You can either blame: the parents for not watching what their children are putting in their mouths and teaching them about proper nutrition and exercise or farmers for giving their cattle hormones which in turn is giving our children hormones.
