The lining of the colon is absorbent. Saliva has very little of the virus, but an infected man's seminal fluid is full of virus. Unprotected anal sex with an infected partner is like injecting yourself directly with his blood.

Dude, HIV can be transmitted by any open wound and/or fluids, which is why even if you are only having anal sex, you should wear a condom--that area is pretty darn tight, you might realize, and more likely to suffer from abrasians than the female vagina; as for stds, you can get those from any kind of contact, skin or fluid, and so it makes sense that it doesn't matter where the contact is taking place--be safe!

Because the anus has lots of tiny blood vessels, which is how a sopository is given (a painkiller up the bum!). If one partner ejaculates into the other, vaginal or anal, the fluid will likely get into the blod stream, and hence, HIV will then be present in the body.
Oh, and the anus does not always bleed when penetrated. If that happens, then you are doing it wrong!

When a man has sex, vaginal or anal, it makes small tears on his penis caused by friction. No amount of lube can change this. You can't see them or feel them, but they are there. Also, anal sex injures the anus and rectum, causing it to bleed. If you don't use a condom, the blood from the rectum makes contact with the tears on the penis and you can get infected. A carrier can infect his partner by ejaculating into his anus while it is bleeding....
A bit graphic isn't it? Well, you asked. :P

Anal sex is inherently damaging to the rectum and causes small wounds that allow a virus like HIV to enter the bloodstream.

Because in the act of violating each other they create injury to the anus and then insert infected semen into it.
