s award she received from the church for outstanding community envolvement , I think I banged it to hard when I was mounting it. It has a small blemish, I am afraid it will snap if if I keep messing around with it. Its a very delicate material.Should i just leave it alone or is there some way to fix it up?

i would leave it alone, the complications that can arise from a situation like that are dire.

Take a damp paper towel folded into four squares.
get you wifes iron hot
place the towel over the blemish and place the tip of the iron on the towel for a few seconds!
The steam should raise the wood up level to the surface!
DO NOT HOLD the iron for more than 10-15 seconds at a time!!!!!!!!!

I can assure you it will not break. From your description it sounds like you need a larger tool. Call a professional.
