do you know if theres a national rate for doing sleep in/sleep overs plus can any1 recommend a union.

There's no national rate. I'm guessing you mean actually sleeping, rather than a waking night, we used to get £25 for a sleep in at a children's home in 2004ish, but I think it differs greatly from place to place. If you were doing a waking night it would be paid by the hour, and could be anything from £10-£20 an hour or thereabouts.

When my mother needed 24hour care in her own home, back in 2003, Tower Hamlets Social Services (London) were paying the agencies (I think) approximately £60per night. I'm not sure how much the agency actually paid their workers out of this.

my x used to get £30 for a sleep in. not bad gettin paid for sleeping. but she got no extra if she had to do anything during the night

Care worker get paid for being there incase there is a problem. some body needs to be on hand to help

normally they pay you any thing upto a pound hour less then when you do a waking night
