First dtatch the network cable from your PC , then restart the PC after that run the machine in Safe mode(While booting the machine press F7 or F8 u will see the safe mode option). Then in safe mode run Full system scan in Norton Antivirus(Have patience it will take time). Then attach network cable and again boot the PC normally. It should solve your problem.

I deleted my Norton anti virus after I bought a copy and couldnt renew a year later online without having to buy yet another copy of Norton again. Yet, I don't get any viruses anymore or malware. hmmm....

I use the top free recommended by techs applications for this. Ad-aware is the #1. Next is Spybot Search & Destroy and my third is A squared. All free and safely downloaded at download.com. (verified on Tech TV, so I know it's safe).

Another great program out is McAfee's SiteAdvisor. It runs in a browser and as you surf, marks all the bad websites with a red dot so you know to stay away. Better yet, it even tells you what virus names the website plans on installing in your comp!
It's a great program and it's free too.

To address your problem now, you probably have to go to safe mode to remove stubborn viruses. The reason for this is, even the best virus scan programs cannot remove a virus if it is still running as you scan. In safe mode, this process will be dormant and removable. To get to safe mode press F8 when restarting your computer. Follow prompts to get in. Run your new virus scan prgrams and when finished, just reboot.

Follow this advice, and you shouldn't ever get any serious problems. Of course this is written for use with the Mozilla FireFox browser. IE is bad since all virus codes are written for that browser, that's why I switched over. I have been fine now for over 2 years!

Bro.. you should use firefox!! it's safer and faster!!
here are some things to know if you have a virus..

First, you may think you have a virus, but how do you really tell? Viruses often cause erratic behavior, smiley faces may pop up, your screen may disappear, or your computer may crash. The trigger that activates the virus can be almost anything. For instance, the virus can be activated the minute it is installed. Or it may start its dirty work the next time you start your computer. In many cases, a virus can reside inside your computer in an inactive state, waiting for a certain event (like a certain date) to happen.

From the moment the virus infiltrated your computer to the time that it made itself known to you, you could have innocently spread the virus to others. A very disconcerting sign that you have a virus is when friends call or e-mail to let you know you have sent them a virus-infested e-mail. It can also be transfered via IM's and Peer to Peer's like limewire, Bearshare and Kazaa... SO beware!!!

Now... If you notice any of this CRAPS (lol) in your system.. The first thing you gotta do is STAY CALM.. lol... because people tend to panic when they notice something like viruses... Thats what I did sometime in the best and I deleted some of my system32 thinking the virus is there... and KABOOM!!! I cant start my pc anymore...LOL!!!!

What you gota do is, download an antivirus... My personal reccomendation is AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2) Because unlike Norton and PCcillin or Mcaffee.. It's not resource hungry.. It's simple.. lol...
another recommendation is zonealarm.. but... It cost like 50$ for the fulll version... but you can email me for a serial (LOL!!).. anyways...
other programs are:
Anti Vir www.free-av.com
Panda anti virus www.pandasoftware.com
Avast! www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
My etrust antivirus.cai.com
clam win anti virus www.clamwin.com
and Last but not the least.. KAPERSKY... ( I dont actaully know if it's free or something.. But because it's not that popular, There's less hacks for that program...)

But.. if you dont want any programs.... Try just to scan first...
housecall.antivirus.com
or jsut use free mcaffee virus scan...
but.. remember,, better be safe than sorry!!LOL!!

anyways...
They say only use one anti virus program... I say not... Because... base on my experience... There was this virus that got scanned by Avast but not by AVG.. Well thats just my opinion...

Now... sometimes... your anti virus says they have scanned something.. But cant delete it... what your gonna do is, google the virus name.. then there should be some step by step instructions in some forum... Try that... lol...

anyways... last but not the least but the most annoying and irritating and pissing (lol)
If you still cant delete it.. the last way is to reformat your PC... that sucks I know.. but... It'll surely kill the viruses.. and your files.. LOL!!

And ya... before I forget...
Sometimes... viruses seem to restrict you from accessing the net.. sometimes... it kills your connection or something... now great.. you cant download softwares.. what you gotta do is go to a clean PC.. then download the latest installer from there... now... burn it to a cd or something... then load it to your pc... it shall work... lol

now good luck with you!!!!

If you are using winXP, and have a licensed copy, then you can go to microsoft's web site and download their "windows defender" software which is a firewall and an antispyware , these are not available in Norton antivirus.

Apart from that you should enable autoupdate feature of windows ON. control panel > Security center. Turn Auto Update ON. This will keep your windows updated with all security patches.

Also check if you have remote desktop enabled. Disable if you are not using the feature.

Look for My computer Icon, on desktop or in the start menu.
Right click on My Computer Icon. Select Properties.

Select Remote tab.
Under Remote assistance, there is a check box. Uncheck it, if it is checked.
Click Apply, click OK.

Browse through Yahoo Answers at any time of day or night and you'll see several recent questions similar to this one. Viruses are a very common problem with Windows PCs. So common that it should make you wonder why you keep your PC. Why don't you own a computer that doesn't have these problems? Don't be a masochist, switch!

http://www.apple.com/getamac

Switch now and in a month or two you'll be wondering why you didn't switch sooner. Everything is easier on a Mac, and there are NO viruses. That's right: ZERO. I can't remember the last time I scanned for one (AV scanners are available for the Mac, but they only look for PC viruses!) and my system is as good today as the day I bought it.

go to http://www.bitdefender.com and use their online scanner and virus cleaner. It is really quite excellent.

Unlike Symantic, Panda and others which tell you how to get rid of the virus (ie buy their software) Bitdefender will also clean the virus. If it works then buy the software once your Norton licence expires.

The link below will lead you to a massive source of virus and spyware protection software. Some of it costs, some of it is "try-and-buy" and some of it is 100% free. The site is a CNET, so it's safe, garaunteed. :)
