Try an apartment complex that is not managed by large property management company because if it is, the rule is strict and they can't go around it. Find a smaller apartment that is managed by an owner and offer to pay slightly higher rent or the last two months rent (if he can afford) or something. He may also want to try section 8 if he is unemployed and low income. Check with the city to see if he qualifies.

credit counseling companies can sometimes be a hindrance. There is nothing they do that he can't do himself. one of the first things he needs is education. And there's more than enough on line to get him started.

education is key. learn how to build your score. learn how to keep the score up. did you know closing out a bunch of accounts at once can actually hurt your score? did you know that paying off too much debt at once can hurt your score?

he needs to work on paying off collections too. those hurt. but the absolute most important thing he must do is...commit. commit to rebuilding his credit and not letting it slip again. many times people underestimate the affect a credit score can have on their life. and by the time they do, it's too late.

Look for a month-to-month rental agreement, not a 1-year lease. This way its less risky for a landlord, he can kick you out the very first time you late with rent payment.
