Is the other person staying? If so you both can go to the leasing office and both must agree to remove yourself from the lease but the remaining person must qualify for the apartment alone. Otherwise you must live up to the terms of the lease, whatever they may be. 2 months rent and a 30 day notice or 1 month, whatever the lease states as a lease termination fee. A lease is a legally binding contract and you are bound to the terms of the lease in a court of law.

Pay off the rest of your half of the lease and walk away. You can try talking to the other person, or your landlord about finding someone to replace you, which would be even cheaper. You did sign a contract though and you stuck to it.
