I'm sure he means well, and perhaps you had mentioned at some point that you wanted to take up sewing as a hobby?
Men are often terrible at gifts for women. The worst gift my hubby got me was on our first wedding anniversary. He went to the mall at the last minute, and bought the first thing he saw at a craft show - a blue ceramic plate, with glitter, and red/white ribbon roses. It was hideous - BUT - he and I made the best of it with humour. I was heartbroken when after 7 years of marriage, one of the kids knocked it over and smashed it to bits.
Other bad choices over the years included: A breadbox, a toaster, a sweater that was two sizes too small, a nightie that was three sizes too small, clip earrings (I have pierced ears), a purple hat & scarf (to go with my GREEN winter jacket) - just to name a few.
Men - take note: We love you - But you don't always listen to us when we tell you what we want. We don't want appliances or stuff for the house, and PLEASE don't try and pick out clothes for us!! Gift cards work nicely, thank you.

If you sew a serger is a nice compliment to your regular machine. If is very good for seaming,
My mom is a big seamstress, she uses her serger almost as much as a her Bernina Artista.

He's trying to tell you that he's a loser and he sucks at buying you gifts, so next time you should just give him a list of the things you want and make it easier for him.

Probably! I would kick my husband's butt! I don't sew. If something rips, I take it to the cleaners for mending or just throw it out.

Well I would guess that you are into sewing and making clothing or he wouldn't have gotten this for you. He may just like giving you gifts. Ever think about that?????????
