This is not as hard as many have been lead to believe. I tell a person; First buy you a model car and put it together by READING the instructions. Once your car is finished your ready! Ha! Hey, I have showed and helped many build homes. I do presentations on how to own a home in 5 years, well not done those in about 10 years now, got tired. As far as a web site I am not sure. You can find a few books at the public library on construction that may help. If, you want to write I can get a few pictures of this. If, you live close, I can offer my Free Consultation. Well, it may require food and a few beers. Place to sleep if it take a few days.

The answers already given have covered most of the methods spiders use to construct webs. But one neat feature was not covered. Some spiders migrate using their webs. They build a small (big to them) sac like structure out of their web when they are at the top of a bush or tree(or man made structure) and when the air currents are right, they release it dragging them with it like we would in a balloon. There are certain areas where you can actually see them migrating on their webs. I saw this once in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Consider taking a trip and visit some Mennonite communities. Perhaps contact them and see if anyone is in the process of building a home. Learn the methods they use to build a basic home that is more in keeping with nature.
You can buy a home design program to design your own place. A few things to consider. For Heating and AC, create a venting system that has two recovery vents, one by the floor and the other by the ceiling. They should have louvers, so that they can be closed. In this manor, during the winter you open the one along the floor and close the ceiling one, than reverse that in the summer. That way you are pulling the cold air from the floor in winter, and hot air from the ceiling in the summer.
Use vents that have thermostat controls, which allow you to set individual room temperatures. A programmable thermostat adjust the unit, for when you at home or not.
Consider making the house environmentally friendly. Set windows to take advantage of summer shade and winter sun.

hi, i'm not going to address the question of a web site but i did want to advise you. don't know where you are from, i'll assume usa. codes are very important in the us, and any incorporated area will enforce these. if you are in the county there may be no building codes at all, depending on state and county of course.
here's my contribution: concider going 12x12 if at all possible. you lose six sq ft. but you gain exception from building codes which by extention could save lots of time and money. it is even possible to build two closely adjoined (ahem) 12x12 stuctures.

Since, you're calling this building a house, can we assume you're going to have electricity, plumbing, and heat? Those are complicated systems. Echoing another responder, make sure you are in compliance with local building codes. In Massachusetts, we have insulation codes, for example.

If your going to build a "simple house", make sure that your building plans are up to code, and that you get a permit to build from the city or else you may be wasting your time, money and resources.
