Whose heart is hard? If it is your own, you could try is doing things to help others (volunteer at an animal shelter, tutor kids, etc.). Doing this and expecting nothing in return can help soften up a hard heart, because you can begin to re-learn to love and care. It's a great and unexpected reward.
It's a little more difficult if it's someone else's heart that needs softening. In that case, the person has to be open to it. The only thing to do is to keep demonstrating that you (and other people) love and care for them.

With lots of hugs & smiles,
& little notes of poetic imagery,
perhaps even the sound of a voice
may penetrate the harden heart
from the sensation of sweet vibrations
of sincere words of love, a deep stare
into the person's eyes of a harden heart may
also soften a heart's ways of
solid state stubborn non responsive
feedback. Sometimes a gentle touch can
crack the stucco shy plate hardening the heart
and open up this heart to feel that someone
is right there to embrace the beats of life
& love and incite a heart to rebuild its way
toward another who is trying to get through.
And never give up your desire, embrace
each moment you can, even if a heart has
hardened, its measure of need someday
may open up. Just for you.
What a foolish heart not seeing you standing
there, waiting in hopes of life and change.

You can't do it. Only the person with a hard heart can and it most the time takes something too break the heart before it will soften.

Hello Itty
A hard heart comes from many things
first you need to melt down the wall of defences
you need to be able to trust
love is the only thing that will turn pain to an open trusting heart
often all it takes is a quiet gentle word of assurance
just like a mothers love
once the heart is tender, open, no defences, love can blossom
sole mates are every where you just need to say hi

In my opinion, kindness is one way to soften a hard heart. Surely, if you are continually kind to someone, they cannot be that insensitive.

If it is your heart that is hard, try therapy to find out why your heart is so hard. If it is someone else's heart, there is nothing you can do except be loving and caring and hope they get the message.

good luck with that.
I figure, you cant CHANGE anyone.. just show them something better and maybe they'll learn for themselves..
if you want to affect someone emotionally, figure out what it is that they have a hang up about.. (mine is dying before my child can care for herself.. or death of loved ones) and grab a movie on that kind of topic. I had a good cry last night with the movie "The Notebook".
Imagine, having your soul mate and always forgetting your whole history and life.. just to come back and remember for five minutes then slip back into Alzheimer's. Argh.

Time is always essence. While time is softening it allow only positive things in your life to contribute to it. Show love to someone who appreciates it and see how it transforms you.
