I dont get why people just write that either. We all know we can call the dr. when ever we want to. Sometimes it is just nice to get answers from people with personal experience. Sometimes it takes the dr. hours to get back to you and it is nice to have piece of mind from other people. In many instances there is no reason to call the dr. but if it is your first pregnancy some people panic at the slightest thing and need someone to tell them if it sounds serious enough to call the dr. for. Maybe some people want points which I also see no point in, not like there is a grand prize or something. It is just nice to share your knowledge and experience with others.

Is there any point in asking a question on Yahoo Answer that only a doctor is best placed to answer? Even then, a doctor would be wary about commenting before examining or at least asking you a couple of questions in return.

******
How are we to know that the person asking the question had already asked the doctor without he/she saying so? If the question goes something like "My doctor said that blah blah blah, but my so and so..", then maybe it's less appropriate for someone to reply with "Ask the doctor". Even then, if something a doctor has told you is unclear, or if you still have doubts, the answer still would be "Ask a doctor", albeit a different one for a second opinion.

The point is, a place like Yahoo Answers is full of unqualified people giving unqualified opinions. To trust the opinions of such complete strangers over an advice received from a professionally trained doctor who've seen numerous similar cases and have dealt with the person asking the question directly is just stupid at best, and dangerous at the worst case.

To make the point that they are better off going to visit the doctor with their health problem rather than asking on the internet. If you had any sense and was worried about your health you would go to the doctor and not ask on here.

Doctors are not always right. You may be surprised at the different answers you would get from medical professionals answering the same question.

There are some people here who have serious health issues. They expect us--ordinary people--to diagnose them or give them medical advice. People who say that want it to be clear--they aren't an expert. If a person wants expert medical advice you do need to "ask a doctor."

in fact in reference to your question you did not state brand or anything else taking any medicine could be harmfull to your baby and I'm certainly no doctor.
Go to the local chemist and ask the pharmacist about what would be suitable they would have a warning on them if they were harmfull, a chemist knows more on the medicines than the doctor and will answer the question.

I wonder the same thing. I saw someone ask about her water breaking, she wasn't even close to full term. I couldn't believe she would sit on the computer and ask strangers what to do instead of high tailing it to the hospital.
