He keeps getting his leg caught in the rails and they are so pudgy he can't get them out. I know bumperpads are not believed to be safe when they are younger, wasn't sure about older, and why do they sell them in stores if they are so unsafe? It's confusing. We all just want a good nights sleep.

bumperpads are deemed unsafe for the baby causing smothering and SIDS, all due to airflow. Wasn't sure if 9 months was a safe age. Crib is fine, it's just his pudgy little legs not his head getting stuck.

I put the bumper pad in my sons crib around the time he started crawling. He is also pretty pudgy and would wake up screaming in pain because his legs were caught. I couldn't bear that. He's 10 months now and does just fine w/pads. He still occasionally gets them caught but not above the knee anymore since using them. He also does try to stand on them, but I have them tied just lose enough that they slide down the rails and he can't climb out. I also have his mattress as low as it goes. Hope this helps!

If he is old enough to roll over and move around some, and I am sure he is if he is getting stuck, then the risk of entrapment or suffocation from the bumper is reduced significantly. I guess the purpose of the bumper is so that babies won't hit their heads on the rails, but be warned! As they start standing up, some babies step on the bumper and use it to climb out of the crib. I'd try the bumper, though, just to see how it works. Good luck, hope you get some sleep soon

i'm under no circumstances a specialist yet I do have 2 small children (a even as 6 and three) so i guess I easily have a touch experience. once you've a extra recent crib with appropriately spaced rails then getting stuck should not be an difficulty. on the present time the bumper pads are fairly extra for ornamental applications. My youngest easily were given to the point that he develop into employing it to help him in mountain climbing out of the crib. in the experience that your son is ripping up the pads then it would want to easily be extra of a suffocation or choking possibility to save one contained in the crib fairly than taking it out all at the same time. If it can make you and your spouse sense better than contact your wellbeing practitioner's place of work for his or her suggestion. sturdy success!

I've never heard of bumper pads being unsafe. Weren't they made so that your baby wouldn't get caught in the bars of the crib?
At 9 months old, he's big enough to move on his own, I would try it out. If your not comfortable with them there, then remove them.

My baby is 4mo & his bumper pad has been in his crib from day 1. He takes his strong chubby leg & pushes the bumper pad down and gets his leg stuck in the rails too. I put foam rubber around his crib, between the bumper pad and the rails, not where he can get to it. And that keeps him from being able to push it down and get his leg through the rails.
Not foam rubber, but that's easier than trying to explain what I use. It's those spongey bear shaped things that you put in their bathtub so it will be comfortable for them to lay in.
Hope this will give some idea of what you can do.

I actually still use them with my 11 month old. He keeps banging his head at the top of the crib and he sticks his legs out and they get stuck. A good way to make sure he is safe is to make sure they are tied on loosely so he can lift the bumper if he gets stuck under it. 9 months should be old enough to maneuver out from under the bumper. Oh, and when he starts standing, make sure he can't climb up on it and get out of the crib.

Bumper pads are unsafe at that age. They won't prevent him from sticking his legs through the rails anyways. How old is your crib? Maybe the rails are too far apart. I would suggest looking for a new crib.

Bumper pads aren't going to help. I wish I could add more but I think it is something he will have to out grow. Bumper pads can get him hung up more. They don't secure down all the way around and they aren't that high. I would guess your baby's a bit of a kicker. Hopefully he will settle down and not get stuck anymore.
