Why shouldn't there be more than one? The name
tarantula applies to a whole family of spiders, the
family Theraphosidae, which includes about 100
genera, and occurs almost world wide in the
warmer areas, primarily. There are none in the
United States east of the Mississippi River, but
they occur throughout most of the area to the west.
In Europe, however, the name tarantula is used
for one (or a few) large species of wolf spider,
the family Lycosidae.

Homosapien is a species of the genus "homo". Tarantulas are a family of animals containing many different species. Naturally, there are more sub-groups in a family than a species. That's how.
