r u giving him a hamster mix from which he picks out the seeds? they do love them but besides being fattening, they can cause skin problems because of the oils in them. give him a hamster mix with at least 15% protein---just read label. get one with a good mix of many seeds, corn, pellets. dont buy the lab blocks as they r boring---like eatingplain rice every day. pick out some of the seeds so he doesnt get too many. he'll then eat the other foods more often. do u give him any fruits/veggies? is it a syrian?

The sunflower seeds are too fattening and should only be an occasional treat. The easiest way to ensure a complete and healthy diet is to get lab blocks from the pet store, they are large brown pellets that you feed instead of seeds you can also try the other pelleted diets such as exact rainbow, (it tends to be a little more appealing) but I would deffinetly get him on pellets. If for some reason you are not able to find pellets and can not order online I would take all the sunflower seeds out when you give him his food so he is forced to eat the rest and only occasionally give him the sunflower seeds (like one a day). Good Luck

You need to get him on a well balanced diet and give the sunflower seeds as a treat. Sunflower seeds are very fattening and he will gain too much weight which is not good for him.
