I temp for Verizon, and I'm already one year into a two-year contract. It would be wonderful to become a permanent employee for Verizon, and I'm wondering if there's a way to "sell" myself so that they'll hire me. I plan to stay here until I finish some sort of schooling, so they wouldn't have to worry about me turning around and quitting on them! School will take at least a year and I probably won't start until January, anyway. Any suggestions??

Have you approached the Human Resources dept and discussed your career goals with them? While you may be a temp, you are contributing to the success of the corporation. Be careful though, becoming permanent before the 2yr contract is up will make you undesirable to that agency. And you don't want to burn any bridges...

If you are pursuing a degree, you might also inquire what educational opportunities are offered by the company. You basically need to sell "yourself" as having potential to the company's business goals. What you are doing as a temp is a good start.

Don't delay as corporations are always evolving. You want them to make you a permanent part of the team...
Good luck..

They will see eventually, if youre a good employee. You said you have a 2 yr contract, well, if they dont hire you permanent after that time has gone by, then Id leave.

Try going to snelling or the highest paying temp service in the area. Verizon operates on contractual employment, but places like snelling give a company only ninety days to decide to hire or not. Jimmy_paxson@yahoo

Be their best employee. Show up for work early. Stay late. Be happy and friendly. Offer to help. Bring snacks if allowed. Dress appropriately. Don't gossip. Do your work and don't be a slacker. Be the one person they don't want to lose and they'll hire you.

Your work is the best way to sell them. Try taking what you do to the next level. For each job you do, think about what this data will be used for. When you submit that work, also submit your suggestion for the next step. Try to imagine the end product from beginning to end and give them the end.

Be at the employee entrance before anyone else arrives, waiting for opening.

Be the last to leave and make someone come to tell you they're closing. "You have to go".
