Luke is a better match for Lorelai than Christopher.
Chemistry:
Most people who have just started watching the show say that the chemistry between Luke and Lorelai seems forced, and that Lorelai and Christopher interact much better together. However, I have seen every single episode of Gilmore Girls, and I feel that the chemistry/tension between Luke and Lorelai in Seasons 1-4 is much more powerful than anything I've seen between Lorelai and Christopher. The lack of chemistry this past season was due mainly, I feel, to the plot lines. If we had seen a lot of chemistry between Luke and Lorelai throughout Season 6, her spliting with Luke and running to Christopher would not have been realistic.
Fatherhood:
Christopher is Rory's father, or at least her biological father. In reality, Christopher was pretty much absent during much of Rory's childhood. In Season 1, in the episode "Christopher Returns," the first time Christopher came to Stars Hollow was when Rory was 16. He was also highly undependable. In Season 2, episode "Presenting Lorelai Gilmore," when Christopher said he would for sure be there for Rory's debutante ball, Rory and Lorelai decided that there was about a 60/40 chance that he would actually show up. Was Christopher there at Rory's graduation, when Rory moved into Yale, or when Rory was assigned 300 hours of community service? No. But Luke has been like a father to Rory all along. In Season 1, "Rory's Birthday Parties," Luke made a special birthday coffee cake, along with decorations, for Rory. Also, in Season 5, "Wedding Bell Blues," Luke tells Christopher that he made mashed potatoes for Rory when she had the chicken pox. Luke was at Rory's graduation, helped her move into Yale, and was one of the first people she went to after receiving her community service. Clearly, Luke has been there for Rory much more than Christopher has.
Values/Morals:
Christopher has been proven to have less than stellar values. He didn't offer to help out Lorelai and Rory until he inherited millions. After he found out that Sherrie was pregnant, he was willing to cheat on her with Lorelai. Yet Luke has very good morals. He has always helped Lorelai out with financial issues, most obviously, the inn, but also when the house was infested with termites. Luke is also described by his sister, Liz, as entirely monogamous. Luke places a high value on family, as with Liz, Jess, and even his father. Christopher never got along with either of his parents.
Assisstance:
Luke has helped out Lorelai on so many occasions, and not just with money. He drove her to the hospital, fixes anything around her house or the inn, let her his truck, bailed her out at the picnic basket auction, and consoled her on many occasions. Christopher offered to buy something for Lorelai once he became a millionaire.
Future with Lorelai:
In "Partings" (Season 6 finale), Lorelai stated she thought about marrying Christopher when she was pregnant, but never longed to marry him. Throughout Season 5, we see Lorelai thinking about marrying Luke ("trying on" wedding dresses, telling Emily she did want to get married, saying she wants her middle with Luke), and ultimately, she does ask Luke to marry her.
Love:
Quite simply, Luke is the only man Lorelai has ever loved, or so she told the psychiatrist. Luke is also the only man we have ever heard Lorelai profess love to. If Lorelai ends up with Christopher, she ends up with a man who isn't the love of her life, which is just wrong.
Clearly, Luke is the right man for Lorelai.

I am not a huge fan of the show. My wife watches it so I guess I do to. Who is better? Let's see...
Luke:
He is genuine. He is a hard worker. He and Lorelai have a chemistry from the beginning. He has been there more for Rory than Christopher. Granted Luke does have a problem seeing the true meaning behind comments. Sometimes Lorelai will say its OK but she really means the opposite. This is a downfall on his behalf. It is possible he will become more intuitive but most likely not since that seems to be a male fault. One I am guilty of myself.
Christopher on the other hand has not been very reliable. He is there and then he's not. Once a gypsy, always a gypsy. A roaming dog is never happy being tethered. Lorelai has the inn to run. If she gets with Christopher, there is Gigi that comes with the package. Will she be able to balance the inn and take care of the needs of a very demanding little girl? Granted Christopher seems to be getting a handle on the "acting out" business, I think Gigi will be a handful. That's not to say that Luke and Lorelai will not have one of their own although I think Luke will be happy with just having Rory.
Christopher has become rich. That's nice but that is one thing Lorelai has never been into, hence the premise of the show.
So in short I think the better match for Lorelai would be Luke. Luke also likes camping. There is something to be said for a person who can enjoy nature. They are more apt to be even-tempered and more down to earth. Less dramatic.
That's my opinion.

I'd have to say Luke. I know there's history with Christopher and Lorelai, and that's Rory's dad but he hurt them a lot over the years. Luke, on the other hand, has always been there for both Lorelai and Rory. He was at Rory's graduation, he fixed their house, AND had literally been a shoulder for Lorelai to cry on. He rarely, if ever, acted immature, like Christopher has. He's also more stable. When him and Lorelai first got together, he simply said, "I'm all in". And he was. :-)
Sidebar:I can't wait for the season premiere!!

Luke is better for her. Christopher left her when she needed someone the most and it seems that he only shows up when he needs something. It never really is about Rory and Lorelai, it's always about how something is happening in his live so he comes back and screws things up for them. I don't like his character, Luke is much better.

Christopher
* they have Rory which will forever link them
* they have that history that just works so well for them
* she seems like a different person around Chris - she's smiling, loose, seems comfortable with herself - almost seems like she knows she got the "happily ever after" fairy tale ending
I do like Luke, but three reason's he's not good for her:
* he's not good with opening up and talking about his feelings - that's not a bad character trait in general - but with Lorelai - you know what she is feeling before she even does at times
* Luke seems to be jealous and gets mad at her quickly
* they have the friendship history - they don't date they remain friends - they do date, she looses her best friend
Great pros/cons from everyone!

I would say Luke. They were great friends before they got romantically involved. He has consistently been there for her and Rory, unlike Christopher who just pops in and out of their lives.

ok deffenatley luke. i mean seriously luke has ALWAYS been there for lorelei! always, and he is so nice and he cares about her and rory. chris on the other hand, left lorelei when they had a kid! that was so mean. he made lorelei raise rory all by herself at the age of 16. he just ran out on them. luke on the other hand is always there for her no matter what has happened. he has never ran away from her!

Luke... because:
* he has been a good friend, even when she was engaged with Max, dating and dating, etc.., and he already was in love with her, but he knew she saw him as a friend
* because he treats Rory very "fatherly"
* he is much more focus and responsible than Christopher
* he can cook!! (you gotta love that in a guy)

Luke is. He will be a stabilizing force in her life, she will feel grounded by him. He is intelligent, as she is. They share a great sense of humour. Lorelei is good for Luke, as she pulls him out of his shell. He is ordered, while she is chaotic, so that is good for both of them. I just really think they belong together, because they have personality and character traits which complement one another.
