No it's foobed mate.
Try a utility like 'mobmeter' to confirm the wear rate and consider investing in a replacement.

Doesn't anyone realize that he said "mAh" ? I think he may be confusing the mAh with NiMH, but the clarification of his question is the answer. the mAh (milliamp hours) is the answer. Whichever has more mAh is generally going to work longer. There are some Lithium AA batteries, but these are not Li-Ion and not rechargeable. Look for the mAh rating, which is the rating of how much energy a battery can produce. For some types of uses a lower mAh battery may produce better operation (such as camera flashes or other high watt / low duration uses) but generally just check the mAh. For AA rechargeables it seems like a high mAh NiMH is the only real choice now though.

Modern Lithium Iron batteries are intelligent (relatively speaking)
They can be recalibrated. This is usualy a utility available on the manufacturers web site. Calibration takes 8 hours and the machine cannot be disturbed in that time. Depending on the battery you should get a minimum of 50% of it's original capacity back. Both HP and Dell have this ability though neither advertise it.

I had the same problem with a compaq. A Magizaine said to take the battery and put it in a air tight ziploc bag and put it in the freezer for 24 hours Take it out put it in the computer then recharge and discharge for 6-7 times. Our laptop now gets one hour instead of 3 minutes.

Is it a Dell laptop? If it is, you may qualify for the Dell li-ion battery recall. Just go to the Dell homepage and search for the battery recall. Fill out the form and they will ship you a brand new battery.

If you are charging the battery properly and you still don't get a full charge, then the battery needs to be replaced. Check a site like www.batteries.com for a replacement.

let the battery drain completely then go ahead and charge it up that should give you an extra 4 to 5 minutes...but once it gets to that point there is little else you can do and the only other option is to buy a new one.

if you've used your laptop plugged into the mains most of the time, did not let the battery drain out completely before recharging, it comes to this. you can now only replace it and use it according to instructions.
