No. If your car is out of alignment the car will pull to one side when you let go of the steering wheel going down a level road.
If your car shakes or shudders when you apply your brakes then the problem is with the rotors. Especially the front rotors. Rotors are a silver plate-like thing right behind the rim in your tires. The rotor is warped. The warpping is miniscule and not noticable by just looking at it. When you apply the brake the "shoes" come togeather and squeeze the rotor. Since the rotor is warped, it causes the "shoes" to skip over some parts of the rotor and hence the shake.

If alignment is bad enough they might. However I would bet that your brake disks are problem. If brakes are applied - long enough - at a high enough speed, they sometimes "temper" the metal in disk, - this is turn makes it wear slower than the rest of the disk. which in turn - over time makes the disk have spots that are wider than others, this results in pulsing on brake pedal, - as well as shaking in front end (or both). Sometimes you will also get this prablem from bent wheel, - if properly balanced, - it will not "bounce" as you reach the "macic" speed of 50-65 mph! However the disc will pull it into "tighter alignment) with axle, and cause shimmy to show up then! This happens rarely, - but is possible

No! If the car shakes only when you apply the brakes most likely your front rotors are warped!! Alignment usually makes your car pull left or you chew your tires!! But if your car shakes just driving down the road could be bent rim, improper balance of tires, steering linkage problem or worn ball joints!!

Hmmm... A surprising number of folks don't know a lot about cars! The folks that blame the brakes are 100% correct. Pick the first response that said that and give them the points!
Wheels out of alignment can cause a lot of problems, but shaking when you step on the brakes just isn't one of them.

Have you got an Anti-lock Braking System, aka ABS on your car? If you brake too hard or the road is too slippery your wheels will want to lock but ABS prevents it resulting in a shuddering under heavy breaking/slippery conditions (which you will feel through your brake pedal). Could this be the shake you're on about?

"Dodge man" and "me" both have sound advice. In case you do not know many shops will evaluate your problem for little or no compensation but if it is unsafe to drive may not let you leave without either fixing or being towed to another shop or your home. There is a remote chance that your shimmy or shake could be an alignment issue but if it is, it really is not safe to drive as it could be really bad tie rod ends or a broken idler arm might do it but I would tend to agree with the warped rotor idea.

Sounds like you have atleast one brake rotor out of round of heavily rusted. If you take it to a shop I'm sure they will find that you are in need of some brake work. Hopfully you will be able to get away with resurfacing the rotors but usually unlikly (especially on a GM product). Good luck

when that happened to my car the mechanic said it was because the brakes were "out of round". It supposededly is not damaging to the tires or the brakes but is really annoying after a while.

NO!!! The ONLY cause of vehicle shimmy during brake application is warped brake rotors, or out of round brake drums.
