I'd fill it up as a 1/4 or 1/2 full tank will get condensate in it. Go out to the auto parts store and pick up some Sta-Bil. It's fuel stabilizer that comes in a clear-ish bottle...the stuff itself is read. It's not expensive and will last for a few months.

Fill it up. Leaving it empty can cause condensation to accumulate in the tank. Filling it up prevents this. Put a few ounces of fuel stabiliser (get it at any motor factors such as Halfords) in the tank first to keep it fresh and then top it off..
If you're just leaving it for a month, just make sure that the tyres are properly inflated. If you're leaving it any longer, it would be a good idea to put it up on blocks to take the weight off the tyres.
When you go to start it after sitting for a month, it's very possible that the oil system will have lost its prime. It may rattle a bit when first started. This isn't good on the engine but as long as it quiets down within a few seconds you'll be OK. Just don't rev it above tickover for the first minute or so to get the juices flowing normally.

Full tank is best, near empty tank will collect moisture from air, (water doesn't burn well). Also a can of "Heet", -or isopropyl alcohol (about a pint will do) - this is also known as rubbing- alcohol. Put it in fuel tank, it will absorb any moisture that gets in (or already is in). Water and alcohol mix, - and will run it through system as you drive and get rid of it (by burning with gas)! When you return it will be fine.
Note: if you are going to be gone for an extended period,- A little fuel stabilizer would be a good idea, as the current "gas" has a very short life, -before it begins decomposing in your tank! Messed up gas can do a lot of damage to fuel system, - especially fuel injection systems! Product called Sta-Bil is available in auto supplu/maintaince stores everywhere, - this makes gas stay "good" for at least a year if mixed right!

I've always been told to leave about a quarter to a half tank of gas in the tank if you are going to store the car. Then, when you take it out again, make sure you use all of that gas before you add any new gas- don't mix old and new gas. I'm not really sure of the logic behind it, that's just what all the gearheads do here.

It is better to have a full tank so you won't suck up the trash in the bottom of the tank. But if there is a question of theft while you are gone. Leave it with 1/4 tank.

It is far better to keep it full because moisture in the air in the tank will condense and become water in you tank. Less air equals less potential condesation equals lesswater equals less rust and less fuel related issues like filter replacement or carb rebuild.

I have heard that it is not good to leave it empty because sludge accumulates in the bottom of the gas tank and can work its way into the carburetor It is better to leave a quarter tank of gas (petrol) in it.

fill the tank, put fuel stabilizer in. also make sure the tyre pressures are at least correct. i'd put a couple extra psi in but REMEMBER to put them to normal when your gona drive it again. don't apply the hand brake either as the rear brakes can seize leave it in gear.
