Harmful? No. However, be aware that you can still become pregnant even though you're bleeding. Its rare but it does happen. Be sure that if you typically use a barrier method (condoms, diaphragm, etc) that you continue to do so.

If it's not uncomfortable for you, and you have a partner who is willing, there is no physical harm caused by having intercourse during your period. If I have intercourse during this time, I prefer intercourse in the shower, as it makes clean-up a breeze. There are some studies to indicate that you may be at a higher risk of contracting STDs during this time, but you should always use protection unless in a monogamous relationship.

No, it's not harmful. And it's the safest time to have intercourse because while your system is evacuating the old egg, it's less likely that you'll get pregnant. It's still possible, but less likely.

Other than the mess, intercourse is fine during menstration.

According to information obtained during my studies as a gynae doctor I can tell you that it is not harmful to have intercourse during the normal period, always that you are sure of a good hygiene and that there are not sexually transmitted infections in you partner, because during that time you are more vulnerable to pelvic infections.

I don't think it is. I've known lots of people who have a very active sex drive during their period and are perfectly fine to my knowledge. From personal experience, though, I've never had any problems.

Not at all, it's just messy...and if your cramping badly, it might hurt a bit - but that's nothing that will cause permanent damage.
