Picked a single card? No, don't be concerned. That's just odds. Besides, Death comes to us all eventually. Without a full reading, there's no time scale by which to evaluate the significance of a single card, so it could be when you are 93 years old.
A real Tarot reading, with attention to detail and time to answer all your questions, done by an experienced reader (I've been at it some 35 years) is a rare and expensive thing. However, it is one of the best ways in the world to get a more-or-less objective analysis of your questions and concerns, as the Tarot includes the full spectrum of human experience (symbolically) and of the human relation to the rest of our environment.
The card Death does not often refer to ordinary physical death, anyway. And even when it is physical death, it may not be yours; it may even by your worst enemy's death.
The interpretation is more often change; the death of one pattern as part of the establishment of a new one. Changing jobs is an example. Yes, it can be either good news or bad news, depending on context.

Umm.. OK as this is the science section I should probably just say that there is no scientific basis for Tarot but...
The Death card in the Tarot pack doesn't not usually symbolise actual physical death anyway. It usually symbolises the end of one thing, the beginning of a new. So the question becomes do you have any changes happening in your life at the moment?

the card will only be as true, as you let it be. the card 13, means a change, like the metarmorphosis of a butterfly, so if for example, the teacher decides to use adiiferent style of teaching, and makes everyone do lots of homework. this can be considered a change from your normal lifestyle, but you wouldn't notice it usually, but because of the card 13, you relate that incident to the fufillment of 'death'. but the fact is that change is hapening around us everywhere, and all the time, so you really shouldn't worry too much about it.

your Tarot reader should have explained to you the meanings of the various cards. As far as I'm aware, the Death card relates to any kind of major change - it's not necessarily a bad thing.

The death card represents new begingings ... people tend to take the tarot too literally ... all it means is things maybe will change, you will begin again.

No, not at all.
When the death card comes up, it means something else is about change. Could be in your love life, a friend moving, job change.
Almost never life coming to an end.

I would be a little concerned that I was concerned about something that is purely and entirely based on superstition. Tarot readings are pure crap. I hope you didn't pay for this "service".
