You can get a free credit report each year from each of the three credit report bureaus: Experian, Equifax and TrasUnion. You can contact them independently online, phone or snail mail, or you can request for reports through https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp.

To make the most out of this benefit is to request for one report from one agency at a time and space them out through a year, so that you wouldn't be in a situation where you see all the information at once and nothing for another 11 months.
