I agree. Everybody and their mother has a tattoo nowadays. It's not rebellious and extreme anymore. Heck, NOT having a tattoo is the new tattoo.

I agree with your observation that more people have permanent markings of some type than people without them.

Therefore, if you really want to express your individuality, then you should consider NOT getting any piercings or tattoos. You will stand out from the herd, show than you can think for yourself and void permanent markings that will probably embarrass you later in life. Try using temporary paste on tattoos. These look very authentic but.... they come off.

Your tastes and interests will certainly change over the years. A permanent tattoo that seems very cool to you right now, will probably be completely out of sync with who you are or what you are doing ten, twenty, or thirty years from now.

depends upon a lot of factors and think the tattoos are individual. the people i know are not interested in getting tattoos or piercings, which may be because of their age. tattoos are painful and potentially dangerous due to health problems with unsafe needles or allergic reaction to ink, as well as other problems. most states require a person to be at least 18 before they can get one without a parent or legal guardian's consent and many tattoo artists require written proof of same again depending upon the laws in whatever state one resides in.

Well if you're getting a tattoo because it means something special to you, then yes, it is an expression of individuality. If you're getting it because "gosh, butterflies sure are pretty," then you're still entitled to that because it's your body.

Tattoos were largely to express ones membership in a tribe or group well before they became the trend they are today.

Well that is true. However, it's just an expression. I don't see anything wrong them at all. Most people get tattoos of things they have a strong passion for.

I got one with my daughters name on it. And I will get one for each child I have, which I only plan on having one more. Anyway, I am extremely happy with it because it means something to me. I certainly wouldn't want to get a tattoo of just anything, when one day it would annoy me instead of inspire me.

It depends on where you live. In big cities or college towns, it seems like everyone and their brother has one. My husband doesn't like them and I have never thought about one seriously, but it might be nice to have a little Snoopy or Mickey/Minnie Mouse on my hip or something.

I agree - but those people with them, will look really stupid when they are old as they will have to pull back their wrinkly skin just to see what it is. LOL
