No, they are not always 100% correct. My aunt had a boy, after being assured she was having a girl.
In many cases, it's usually the case of being told it's a girl, when it's really a boy, because certain body parts can hide. They are not completly accurate, but more often than not, if they detect the sex early on, and do an ultrasound later on, they can be pretty accurate. More are correct than not.

Hello
No they are not 100% accurate. Very often the later in the pregnancy you have your ultrasound the more accurate the guess will be,..but it is nothing more than an educated guess much of the time.
Just because they do not see little boy parts does not mean they are not there hiding....
A lot depends on the baby's position at the time of the scan.
The only SURE way post conception to know a baby's sex is by Amniocentesis or CVS .. neither ar eused to detect the sex but rather look for defects or other problems and it just so happens the sex can be determined as well if you want.
Thos tests have risks and are not done to determine sex...
I wish you well and hope whatever the sex ... it is a healthy baby!
Good Luck

Yes they can be wrong but also depending how far along you are. The further along you are the better chance they have a being right. Some times babies hide therir parts and thats why they can't always tell. For me they told me that she was 75% sure that I was having a girl but there was a chance that a part was hiding so for me not to get too excited and not togo buy clothes for a girl just in case she was wrong. They usually tell you that they are not 100% they can just tell you what they see right then and there. Hope this helped.

Ok well i think it just depends on having the right tech doing it and doing it at the right time. Mine were both right but my friends who had hers done at like 15 weeks wasnt but i think that is a little too soon to tell anyways. We had ours done by diffrent people and there is always that chance the baby will cross there legs and no one will know what it is till its born. Thats what happen to my sister. Ultrasound is just the best way not all ways accurate but the best and safest way.

Nope. If they say it is a girl, dont paint the bedroom pink. Most of the people I knew were told it was going to be a girl when it was really a boy. I believe an amnio is the only sure way since they actually look at the chromosomes.

from my experience and what doctors have to me......if they are willing to reveal to you a gender, they are usually very confident in that answer.....that said, accidents still do happen and some are misdiagnosed.
after my u/s appt, then ext ob visit i had, my doc always asked if i knoew what i was having, when i told her yes a boy, she said yep---and she wasn't even there...so they must be pretty accurate, if she could simply look at the pic's and know too.
a lot of times if they aren't sure they will tell you that. or they'll say something like, well i'm not sure, but if i had to guess i'd say it's a ______ because of such and such reason.
but then again my boys were not modest, at all...in fact there was no way of us not knowing...she put it my on belly, and there they were in all their spread eagle glory!

yeah, theyre wrong quite often. But the newer ones are much more detailed, and depending how far along you are at the time of the ultrasound, they can be really accurate.
