The word diaspora comes from the Greek, meaning "scattering of the seeds". In history, it applies to the forced exile of an indigenous race. For Africans, the primary cause of these exiles was the slave trade, whereby enemy African tribes or Arab traders, would capture Africans and sell them to Europeans, primarily for working plantations in the newly colonized Americas. The Africans were easier to work and manage than the indigenous "Amerindians".

Subsequently, there were voluntary immigrations of the descendants of these slaves to European countries and to Canada, which never had slavery.

Since the history of slavery is well docmented in recent history, it is hard to believe that there is anybody who does not believe it.

I've never actually heard anyone say that it doesn't exist. Is this a recent thing? My understanding of the word diaspora is that it refers to a group of indigenous people who are forced to leave their homeland and is dispersed through other parts of the world. The slave trade did this to the people of Africa.
