The goth movement started in the early 80's as a post-punk thing. In the 50's, they were called beatniks. Beatniks were the predecessors to the hippies in the 60's.

What do you mean? The closest thing to the gothic subculture in the 50s was the beatnik movement. I really want to know what you mean, please!
