Why do most french films suck ?

Because the French film industry is heavily subsidized by the French government's Ministry of Culture. It's a viscious cycle. The Frech film-makers want to make experimental "Art" movies, and claim that cinema is an art form that needs government support. Government gives them the support -- the people make the movies; but because they only appeal to the Artsy-fartsy crowd, nobody else attends.

THEN, the film-makers go back to the government and claim that without subsidy the French film industry will die. So the government gives them more money to make films nobody watches, which leads to more appeals for money, etc. etc. etc.

American films dominate the world because American film-makers know they're on their own. American film-makers know they have to get the butts in the seat or they go broke. It's called the power of the marketplace, and it works. The French film-makers don't jave to worry about market forces; and that's why their films suck.

sucks for you may be...! at least for me, french movies are great... are deep and artistic... go and watch Amelie, and then we can talk... People have different opinions... you know? So if you dont like french movies, ok... fine. But stop saying that it sucks only because you dont like it...
