I personally don't believe it should be, but that's not the point of your paper :)
So, here are some points you could make:
1.) Reduced cost of operations. If English was the official languages, then the Government would not need to produce and distribute alternate language documents within the US, nor would it need to bother with finding bilingual people for many positions. Some corporations would also be able to reduce costs - however, many would continue to provide bilingual services as a matter of customer service.
2.) Reduced educational costs: the government could simply determine a cutoff period when students would be required to learn English, and only provide ESL (English as a Second Language) services to that point.

Personally I believe that English should be the official language of the United States, because English is the core of US identity, although this core has many-many components. As for the very essay, search for nice writing tips. There are thousands of them in the Internet and they might be very helpful. Besides, there are many writing services online. Personally I know that http://www.rushessay.com is a reliable service because I am familiar with people who constantly use it, but actually if you want to be really good at your studies, you'd better do everything yourself.

Have you ever had a problem communicating with a clerk in a store? Have you ever made a phone call to get a service performed and talked to a person who couldn't understand you? If so, you understand what this paper is about. Just elaborate on it.

english should be the only language spoken in the united stated because #1 its tradition.
second of all, when my italian grandma came to the united states 50 years ago she had to work and go to night school to learn the english language. Nothing was written in subtitles in Italian for her, like how its done for Spanish speaking people.
Also, people who come to our country who cant speak english (mainly spanish people) inconvenience us. When I'm at work, I get so frustrated with people who don't speak English. Why should we accomodate them? If they want to live here, then they need to learn the language, just like my grandparents did.
Oh yeah, and then when they cant speak good english, they get the low paying jobs and mooch off our system with welfare. damn it! now i'm frustrated.
