Best view in London?

Has to be from Waterloo Bridge at night. What do you reckon?

It's quite common that people share your opinion, a lot of people I know say that their favourite view of London is from Waterloo Bridge - hence that song by the Kinks; "Waterloo Sunset". I agree with you - it's a really gorgeous view.

Close, but I say that the best view in London is from the Hungerford Bridge (footbridge between Embankment & Waterloo) at night (the later the better) looking down-river.
Spectacular.

Also, if you're brave enough, the view from the Thames Barrier, again in the middle of the night, looking up-steam is pretty cool as well - gives you a real sense of just how big the Thames is.

Waterloo Bridge and London Bridge, matter of taste.

London Eye, OXO Tower, Tower Bridhe view to both sides Butlers Wharf and Shad Thames one side, London Bridge, More London on other side.... and a little obscure... Shooters Hill SE18, breath taking view ...

Westminster Bridge at night with the Millenium wheel behind you and the gorgeous sight of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, lit up in all its splendour, is a sight that is not easily beaten. Alternatively, sunset over the Serpentine is a wonderful experience if you're looking for a different kind of view...

I actually like more the one from London Bridge - you can see also Canary Wharf and Tower Bridge better.

Some other suggestions:
- Hampsted Heath (the highest point in London - people used to go there during WWII to watch German bombings over the City)
- the hill in Greenwich Park with the Royal Observatory (there are people who go there to watch sunsets over the City and Docklands just before the park closes)
- London Eye (or Shell Centre - if you have any friends working there who can take you to the top terrace)
- restaurant and bar in Oxo Tower
- the view of Canary Wharf from Limehouse
- the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral.
- the terrace of the restaurant at the top of Royal Opera House
- Conran's Coq d'Argent resturant in Poultry 1
- the view of Royal Naval College and Royal Observatory in Greenwich from Island Gardens (the favourite of Turner)
- the view of the Tower Bridge from any of the restaurants on the Thames in Shad Thames
- my flat on the Isle of Dogs!...:-) (it's on the river, overlooking Rotherhithe - you can see everything: from Crystal Palace mast, through Rotherhithe, to Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, Centre Point in Oxford Street and the whole City)

The best view is probably from Canada Square One (you can see as far as Hatfield and M25 on a good day) - unfortunately not accessible to the general public even during "open house" weekends.

Im gonna have to say from outside of London is the skyline.

I dont live in London, only been on 1 visit to London and that was with my nan when I was younger so cant remember much so since I just drive past then the skyline is the best

London eye is dull! I reckon the top of St Pauls - views all over London for miles and it is very rewarding getting to the top.

You are absolutely right. Walking across Waterloo Bridge from Aldwych is a breathtakingly beautiful sight at night. I do it at least once a week and never tire of it.
