It doesn't matter what religion...they are out to do battle with all of them... we are all infidels to them. They seem to have Portland cement between their ears...nothing is negotiable with them as it is their way or no way. Look at the reponse to the Pope's apology...and that after burning other house's of worship around the world. Quite unreasonable wouldn't you say?

It's easy to think from only one side of the fence. I think if we were muslims we would find some of the offences and policies made by western goverments and people of power hard to live with too.
The cultures that have been linked with Islam do have their fiar share of problems and do need to be more progressive.
However, taking the Pope's comments for example, he says that the quotation do not reflect his own views, but then why did he use them? And why did he choose to use Islam as an example opposed to Christian bloodshed throughout history (surely he knows more about Catholic/Christian history better than muslim).
There have been many example where the church of western governments have banned things for being offensive, but when muslims complain they're not even allowed an apology. The Vatican tried to ban Madonna's "Like a prayer" music video becuase it didn't like the burning crosses. Some of their protests has succeeded and some have failed.
At the end of the day if i offended someone and i hadn't meant to, i would have no problem in saying "oh sorry i didn't know it would cause you offence" and thats just general courtesy. So why are people even asking the question or opening voting poles about wether the Pope should have apologised.
If you look at history and politics you'll see that many muslims (mulsim countries) have had a rough time at the hands of a more politically and millitary advance west.
There is a sense of hating or being against everything muslim mainly becuase of 9/11, July 7th. But it doesn't mean that all the decent honest law abiding muslims should be disregarded becuase a few choose to associate their religiong with hate.
When the Iranian president makes obscene comments about Israel and Israels existance the rest of the world rightly condems him and expects him to apologise or conceed his views.
From a muslims point of view, they will see the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq to be Christians or "The West" constantly agressing them. The Taliban offered to give Osama Bin Laden to the Pakistani Authorities where the Americans could take him into custody if they provided proof/evidence of his guilt, but the Americans chose to invade anyway. Recently it has been proved that Iraq had no connection with 9/11, yet they invaded on the grounds of harbouring Osama, and WMD. And yet everyone has such a big gripe becuase muslims protest against comments/cartoons they find offensive.
There are so many double standards or other questions that come out of the Pope's comments and other similar situations. I try not to be biased, applying the same expectations on everyone.

If you hadn't noticed, the "christian world" has been invading muslim countries and has troops in almost every one.
The Spanish/European catholics in the fifteenth and sixteenth century even invaded non-muslim countries and masacred the locals in the Americas by the million. After stealing their lands, the defeated natives were converted to christianity so that they would "turn the other cheek".
The Pope is causing mischief as he knows the history of the crusades. The crusades were instigated by the Pope and the state gave the soldiers freedom from taxes while the Pope gave them freedom to commit sins - the knights took full advantage of both.
The offense is real and i'm sure it was intended to start the missionary war in the wake of the real death and destruction from the "christian soldiers". To call a religion "evil" is, of course, offensive (except perhaps to the satanists). He is trying to cause mischief as he did not apologise for his statement, only for the reaction it caused. If he actually said whether it was his belief or not, then that would be the honest thing to do.
If any muslim hid behind quotes (even from Christians) about the holocaust being a "fraud" or the Bishop of Carthage calling the doctrine of the Trinity a "three headed monster" when it was invented in the fourth century then he/she would rightly be asked to confirm/deny their own opinion.
If you want to hear both sides of the argument rather than one, then see the link to the debates between christians and muslims and decide for yourself about which one makes more sense.
You can't offer a challenge like "put-up" or "shut up" and refuse to hear the "put-up" arguments.

About a thousand years ago, it was the Muslims who brought peace and tolerance, and jealously guarded the knowledge they had acquired from the ancients of Greece and elsewhere. They were the scholars, medics, astronomers and thinkers of the day, who brought great civilisation to Europe.
The Christian barbarians drove them east and killed many of them, but the Muslim legacy which the west inherited was a rich and inspirational one.
Now we have intolerant Islamists making threats against Jews and Christians alike, at a time when their "enemy" wishes to co-exist peacefully with them.
In Poland, the Russians and Germans tried to eradicate and destroy a whole people; virtually wiping out Polish culture by brutal, repressive means; in the death camps of the holocaust.
and the work-camps of Stalinist Russia.
Now, in Poland, there is a fiercely catholic regime which seeks to re-assert Polishness. Thus, they seek to eradicate homosexuality and gay human rights; quite contrary to European law. Many homosexuals perished in the Nazi death camps. OK, it's getting better.....homosexuals only get beaten up nowadays.
Do people ever learn from their own misfortunes or from their past mistakes, I wonder?
It's a sad world which cannot respect the differences between people, but make no mistake, long after such evil methods have ceased, there will still be muslims, and catholics and Polish gay people.

Lord G seems to have opened a very controversial topic, and religion is not a subject I normally discuss in public.
However he does have point, this altercation has be going on though out history, and it really does need putting to bed. Pope John Paul came very close to a general assembly of Religious Leaders, maybe the the present Pope and others should take a leaf out of his book.(A concerned Protestant believer in the Superior Being)

The Pope's statement was like the proverbial pot calling the kettle black - and it also happened to be true: Islam spread by force in it's heyday, just like Christianity. So why are Muslims upset? Why can't they face their own history as we in the West demand that in our societies, we face our own as well?
It was asked after 9/11 and has yet to be answered: Where is the MLK, the Ghandi, the Nelson Mandela of the Muslim world? I have yet to hear of, or from, such a person.
For context (since so many people love to label others and lob stones because of it), I am a liberal, I opposed Iraq war from the get-go, I believe in diplomacy and international coalitions. But for the life of me, we will only get so far if Muslims continue being paranoid and thin-skinned, and it seems to me that this fairly characterizes them.

When Tony Blair called a meeting with the muslim community leaders after the last security alert all they were interested in talking about was sharia law for family matters. They had no interest in developments at Heathrow because as far as they are concerned it's OUR FAULT. The old cliche goes "Their way or no way" And it's as true today as its always been. And before the PC collective get on their high horses, no I am not a racist. And no, England will NEVER become a muslim state

http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/moongod.htm Better read this first. http://bibleprobe.com/blog/?p=25 I think it is time for the Western world to start educating themselves on the barbaric religion called Muslim. People better awaken from their stupor and say it is enough, these people mean what they say. They are not like the people in the west who say I could kill you figuratively. They do not use figures of speech. I have never had a problem with the color of peoples skin, the way they speak etc, but I am developing a serious problem with the Islamic people the more I hear and learn. These people are not joking about the war on the cross. They view all that are not Muslim as an infidel, whether atheist, christian, Buddhist, catholic or whatever. They are not joking. They are as serious as death.

For a religion of peace, they sure do a lot of violence at the drop of a 600 year old quote. It certainly makes that quote seem to be accurate.
