The difference between a flash and hard drive is moving parts. A flash drive does not have moving parts (a spinning internal disk). Instead it stores all files (songs) on a chip.
Personally I've never heard of an MP3 'hard drive' player, unless you keep all your songe on your PC or laptop. iPod's and other MP3 players are ALL flash drives of one sort or another.

Any would do nicely, you already identified the need for Flash based not hard drive MP3 so that's good enough.

If strictly as a music player while jogging 256mb is large enough already. HD-based are bulkier, stay away from them since you need exercising while use, most iPod models of premium size is micro HD, not good for your intended use.
