In light of current events, history depicts one war greater than the other. I believe despite prophecies and literal tabloids, History is the communicator to revealations ; for how many times do we make the same mistakes before we get it right? Now how can we survive perhaps the ultimate mistake?

This is not an easy question. There are too many variables.

The best answer is to prevent a nuclear war. In terms of an all-out-use-every-nuclear-device-on-the-planet war, survival (an individual human or for the species) may not be an option. The climate changes and possible "nuclear winter" may destroy everyone.

If you mean a "strategic use" of nuclear weapons and retaliation (often called a limited nuclear war), then survival of some will be possible. There are two completely different schools of thought.

The first is the paranoid approach: get away from everyone not like minded. Prepare suitable stockpile of food, water and weapons and keep out of cities. Dig deep. Filter air. Shoot everything that moves.

The second is the cooperative approach: Look for the bright side. Gather books and tools. Be prepared to start civilization over if the current one falls.

Back to the prevention idea: Change your personal ways to avoid selfishness. Learn tolerance. Help to correct injustices. Learn to heal and not to kill. Set an example (especially a good example).

I'm afraid the question is weather you would want too. The earth would never be the same for thousands of life times, and would you ever wish to see the results in your own children or their children?

if you are really worried about it, start researching fallout shelters and stocking up on water and canned foods. Move away from obvious targets like military bases and large cities. And don't eat the yellow snow.
