Our pediatrician told us this. He said that since a baby has such a network of vessels and capillaries concentrated on their "T" of their face (forehead and nose causing the slightly blueish look) that if you squeeze a pimple on a baby's face the pus will get into their circulatory system and potentially kill them.
Just sounded kind of far-fetched to me :-) Was wondering if anyone else's pediatrician had ever told them this. Ours has some kind of odd-ball ideas about other things too though, but he is great with kids...

BTW, we are NOT squeezing them at all... I am of the "leave it alone it will go away" school of thought myself. I'm just curious as to whether or not anyone else had ever heard this. She only has the one anyway, it just so happens that it is dead center in the middle of her forehead, right between her eyes. Ugh...
The answers so far are great! Keep 'em comin!

I wouldn't imagine it would cause the pus to enter their circulatory system and kill the baby. I've never heard of this at least. I would be worried about popping pimples on the baby, just because I'm sure you could do other damage to the skin and blood vessels. Babies have ugly skin for awhile, it's something we just have to live with as parents. My daughter had cradle cap & exzema & tiny whiteheads for the firs couple months of her life. After 3 months that all started to settle down, and by 4 moths she had perfect soft pink baby skin. Sometimes it takes a little while I guess.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.
The secret is never to touch the spots

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

The more important issue is scaring. You dont want to leave a scar, since their skin is so thin and delicate.
As far as a baby dying from a popped zit... holy cow. You might need to get a new doctor, this one sounds a little loopy.

I have taken Anatomy and Physiology in school and seem to remember that pimples occur between your epidermis and the second layer of skin.

Are you people serious? Those are not "pimples" like adults get. DON"T squeeze them at all! They will go away on their own within a couple of days.
