got to run & type msconfig
choose the startup tab & uncheck msn messenger (to know which one it is,check the directory to the right of the name)
but an error will come up the next time you start windows & it'll say something like "the startup has been changed" simply check the box at the bottom & it'll prevent the msconfig window from opening up
OR
open MSN messenger go to Tools choose general and unckeck "automatically run MSN messenger when i log on to windows

Jackie, sign in to messenger, then select the tool option, and on the side column, select general, then untick the box where it says about automatic sign in when you log onto windows, this should do it I just tried it. (i have the new windows live messenger-but I think if you select options on any of the versions you should be able to change general settings. ) Good luck!
