Not only should he have been in the story, I think Gary Oldman should play the sleuth and Johnny Depp play Dr. Watson.

It was because the couldn't get the rights to the character for the film and it's also why they couldn't get the original Invisible Man

Because there was nothing supernaturally extraordinary about him....look at the others. You have a vampire. And a man who never grows old. And your Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, the invisible man. The two that DON'T fit are the big bwana hunter, and the american sharpshooter. Nothing supernatural about them at all.

I enjoyed the character list that they used - Quartermain & dorian Grey were cool - but I wish the villain had been the abominable Doctor Phibes.
