Other way round. It is not just an old wives' tale: The immune system handles viral infections, such as all colds, and bacterial infections, which cause some types of fever, differently. The anti-viral response benefits from the extra energy available from eating well, whereas the stress of mild hunger stimulates the anti-bacterial response.

Feed a cold, starve a fever. You usually have a fever with the flu and you're throwing food up anyway.

"Feed a cold, starve a fever" is the saying, but there's no medical evidence to support either case. Colds are caused by viruses and will usually last about 7-10 days, no matter what you do or eat.

I would rather have neither thanks very much!!
I found this hope its useful and its starve a fever and feed a cold!!
It's an old saying. It goes back hundreds of years to ancient medicine. The idea is that if you're hot, you need to put less fuel into your body so you'll cool off: starve a fever, and if you're chilled or weak, you need to eat to stoke up your internal fires: feed a cold.
