i would like to change the absorbancy of a diaper by changing only one variable

It depends on the type of diaper. If you are talking about a cloth diaper you can make it less absorbent by using fabric softener in the washing machine. Fabric softener coats the fibers and keeps them from aborbing as much liquid.

If it is a disposable then you can only change the absorbency by chaning the contents of the diaper, either the while fluffy stuff or the gel crystals, by taking some of either out of the diaper it will be less absorbent.

You could always use a smaller or larger diaper.

You can make it more absorbant by adding more absorbant material. You can make it less absorbant by removing absorbant material. If you are making a diaper from scratch, add less absorbant material than you do now to make it less absorbant.

less absorbant? why? the only thing I've ever cared about is making them more absorbant.
