You don't say why you are replacing the cord. You have an outlet that fits the cord, right? (Also 4 prongs). If the old cord was 3 wires, there is a strap or other connection from the silver screw to the dryer frame (a green screw). This must be removed for a 4 wire dryer cord. If you have a continuity tester, when you are done there should be NO continuity between the frame (green screw) and any other screw.

The colors: red and black to the two brass screws (doesn't matter which is which, they are equivalent), white to the silver screw, and green to the green screw.

It sounds to me like the cord you have is for a mobil home hook up, the black is power, as is the red, the would go to the brass looking connectors on the outside of the silver colored one. The white will go to the neutral orr the silver colored you mentioned. the red and black can be in either order, as long as they are on the ouside posts. The green is a ground, there should be a screw or something that allows you to hook this to the cabinet of the dryer. If you have a manufactured home they may consider that as a mobile home too. If you take the timer control housing apart you can usually find a diagram in that. It is in a spot that does not get hot so that it can burn up. I hope I helped, my terminology was not the best.

Your new dryer cord has red and black wires which are the LINE FEEDS, ( HOT wires) and the WHITE one which is NEUTRAL, and you have a GREEN wire which is the GROUND.

If the dryer is older and there IS no GREEN screw or terminal, drill a hole and install a screw or BOLT for the GREEN WIRE directly on the METAL FRAME of the dryer.

Ok....
Put the GREEN wire on the GREEN screw that already exists, or attach it to the bolt you installed that is on the metal frame OF THE DRYER.

Put the WHITE NEUTRAL wire on the SILVER coloured connection.

Put the RED and BLACK wires on the remaining two BRASS connections, they are interchangeable. ONLY RED and BLACK are interchangeable.

If you do NOT understand these directions, do NOT do this work, find someone who DOES UNDERSTAND THEM.

With electrical work, safety is a MAJOR CONCERN. It MUST be done properly.

The answers on which wire goes where are correct, however since your dryer was 3 wire original and you are going to a 4 wire , the silver screw on the dryer has a connection to gound in the dryer, break that connection land your white wire on the silver screw, connect the green wire to the metal frame of the dryer. Make sure your outlet is wired that way also. If you aren't sure hire an electrician.

Black (power) on the left brass screw. Red (power) on the right brass screw. White (neutral) to the center silver colored screw amd green (ground) to the metal body of the dryer. Make sure the outlet has the same corresponding setup.
