Of all the foreign objects in wrestling (the tables are gimmicked, Triple H's sledgehammer is gimmicked, the metal trays are gimmicked, most other things are gimmicked), the steel chair is the one thing that's for real. There's no weakened metal involved, no cheap low-grade aluminium, there's no "well all the others around the ring are real except the one they use which looks real", it's just a standard steel folding chair that you would buy down whichever shop ordinarily sells steel folding chairs. Oh yeah, and the ring bell is rather obviously legit too.

But yes, the chairs are absolutely for real, it's just a case of the wrestlers being careful - note how most shots are to the back (that would sting a fair bit but do no real damage) and the ones to the head aren't hit with quite the same force (at least most of the time - Mick Foley will attest that some of the headshots can be quite stiff on occassions).

I've heard that they are really metal chairs. They hit the the actors (ok, wrestlers) with the chairs in such a way that the pain is bearable (ie: with the wide side of the chair, not the narrow edge).

If you really want to hurt someone with a metal chair, you'd hit them on the side of the chair, not the flat seat side. The reduced footprint translates to a higher impact pressure on the victim. Not that I condone that sort of thing..

They are normal chairs. Believe it or not, those guys are just really tough. Only occasionally do they hit each other in the head, and when they hit their opponent on the back, it's with the flat part of the chair so it doesn't cause damage.

Wrestlers condition their bodies so they can take a lot of punishment. I knew one who could take a hard hit with a chair in the head, and it didn't even phase him. He used to say that old line "That woulda killed ten ordinary men."
LOL!

I never held a chair, but i did feel a table before and it felt like it was real, not sure bout chairs though. I think they are loosened up before the show

The chairs r real, but I believe they are tempered(I dont how and to what extent) but they are weakened slightly, so the effct is there the sound is there but the pain is not as great as it would be if you got conked on the head a propa chair!!

they are made of steel. If you hit someone across the back with a steel chair, it is a flat surface, and it does not hurt, just stings a little.

Doesnt matter what the chair is made of, however it is a real chair. Its where they hit people that counts.

They are real chairs, but the wrestlers don't really hit each other with any kind of force. They are all good showmen.

they might be real chairs, but wrestling is all fake and rehearsed, so they know wots gunna happen so they can be prepared, otherwise wrestling matches would be to the death
