If you want to go, you should go in the spring or fall because thats when the weather is best. Of course you have to visit London. When you're there, you should do all the main tourist destinations: Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, Hyde Park, Piccadilly circus, regent street, national gallery, tower bridge, london eye. Some other places you could go are madame taussaud's, windsor castle (a little outside london), covent garden (on the weekends there are street performers and its lots of fun). In terms of restaurants, you should visit wagamama's (not british food, but a noodle place you can only find in britain and its cheap and good), a pub (preferably one that is on a corner and looks kind of dirty b/c if it looks clean then its not really a pub), the original hard rock and its museum, and there are plenty of good breakfast places if you just look around. If you have lots of time and want to visit places outside of london, you should go see stonehenge, cambridge (go punting on the river cam), oxford, greenwich, hampton courts, stratford-upon-avon. And to really capture british culture, you need to go to a football match or a rugby match. And use the tube, not the cabs (its a lot cheaper and more fun).

From the perspective of an American who's been there often: the culture is much like ours but you have an immense sense of history because England has been settled so much longer. The landscape is diverse (mountains, lakes, ocean etc.) You will probably want to spend time in London because of the museums, historic buildings, shopping and night life. From London you can take day tours to places like Bath (well worth seeing the Roman baths) or the Cotswolds (thatched roofs, very quaint) or even Stonehenge. Public transportation is excellent, within the city plus trains to everywhere in the country (if you can understand the conductors!) Food is terrible; try to eat in pubs, the only decent food in the country. Climate is cool but what they call damp, we call humid.

If you have time and courage, rent a car and take your own tour through villages and farmland. I found it took me less than a day to get accustomed to everything being on the "wrong" side. Possible trips: west and north through Wales; east and north to Norfolk and Suffolk; north to Yorkshire, home of the "All Creatures Great and Small" author. Helps to have a navigator but I did it alone. I found that even during the tourist season I had no trouble finding bed & breakfasts and never needed a reservation. The breakfasts are huge; I used to eat what wasn't portable and wrap up the rest for lunch. Find a B&B near a pub so you have somewhere to go in the evening!

Happy adventuring!

Its great here! In my opinion your best bet is coming to London because thats where pritty much all of the well known tourist attractions are, everything is close together so can walk or use the really good public transport. Theres so much to see and do in London!

Completely different from London is places like the Cotswolds, Somerset and the Yorkshire Dales - google them! Great landscapes and some would say typically more English, but not as famous and in my opinion your definately better off going to London!

England is a very diverse country. Hills and mountains, lush countryside, huge cities, quiet picturesque villages, forests, rain, snow and sun...what do you like?

The people are generally nice, there is amazing history all around you, great museums and art galleries, fanatastic night-life, some of the best shopping in the world - England has it all.

Decide what you like, there is so much to see that it would take many lifetimes to see it all.

It is a great place not that I have been there or anything but my mom was there and she says it is terrific, and while you are on your way you may check for a place called Chelsea and go to a place called Stamford Bridge, there you will see a great soccer stadium of my favorite club but I suppose you are not going for soccer reasons so I think that you are gonna pass this offer but think about it.
