any help for a paper topic?

i need a topic for a med surg. paper for nursing school. it must pertain to oncology, wounds, immunity, death and dying, pain (chronic or accute), or allergy. also must pertain to a specific age group. topic must pertain to nursing and nursing implications. any help would be greatly appreciated

My mother-in-law is a community nurse, and many visits are to palliative patients. She specializes in wound management and I find this to be a fascinating topic as she must deal with different types of wounds, document them, and use the standard procedures that each different type of wounds require.

Another idea:
I did an entry level psychology class in death and dying, and the most interesting aspect to me was the cultural influences on death and dying. This could possibly affect the way nurses interact with different patients, etc.

One of the areas that I've found particularly interesting lately is the use (or lack of use) of computers to administer medication. As I'm sure you are aware, a very high percentage of patients receive the wrong medications while in the hospital (sometimes medications that they're allergic to). Some hospitals, like the VA, have switched over to a computer system that scans medications into the computer system, and the computer system checks the patient's records to see if the prescribed medication makes sense in relation to the patient's current medications and allergies. This is particularly pertinent with elder care, because many seniors don't remember what medications they're taking or what they've had reactions to. The question is if the cost of the computer system can be offset by reductions of other costs associated with dispensing medication and insurance liabilities.
