- When I shoot to the basket, should I attempt to bounce it off the board or aim directly for the hole? If I aim directly for the hole, what point exactly (front or back of the net) am I aiming at?

- When passing the ball, do I bounce it off the ground or directly pass it to my teamate?

I watch a lot of basketball but I don't have the basics as far as playing.

depends on where you're shooting from.Aim directly to the basket when your directly in front of it. aim for the square of the board when you're at about 30 degree angle from the ring. pick a sweet spot and practice from there. once you get better, move to another spot.
you bounce pass the ball when you're passing to the post, usually when your big man seals off the defender, its the best time to bounce pass the ball. when a chest pass if you're playing the wing positions and use a lob pass or a baseball pass when going full court. this is very dangerous becasue it is very prone to interception. but in basketball, you've got to develop your instincts and know what kind of pass to use. i suggest practicing and learning along the way.

I'm a basketball coach and when I am teaching people to shoot, I tell them to use the board. Aim for the top corners of the square on the back board. This is the point that they are mostly likely to bounce off of and go in. If you don't want to use the backboard (I do this when free-throwing) imagine a pin point in the middle of the basket and aim for that. Imagine your shot going right onto that point.

Did you know that basketball hoop is actually quite big, big enough to pass 2 basketballs through at the same time?

Finally for passing, bounce passing is good close to the net, it is harder to reach, especially for tall forwards to reach down to as they are guarding their net. When you are further away from the basket use chest passes, but make sure they are strong and quick. Make it tough so you are sure no one wants to get in between your pass and the person you are passing to.

Don't get fancy too quickly, take time to learn the basics. Proper jump shots and lay-ups go a long way in a game.

Good luck!

Use the glass when shooting at an angle or when attempting a layup from an angle or headon when attempting a breakaway or in traffic. Passes depend on the player. If your target's wide open with no one around then either one will do. If you're passing to a post player, get it to him the instant he's open. Post players have to rely on guards and the small forwards to score and they are the main reason why it's important for players to know how to pass. Bounce passes are the easiest and safest passes to throw. Try to avoid throwing them in heavy coverage. And don't telegraph passes or force passes to players who are being guarded. Bounce passes are prone to be picked off because of that instant the ball's on the ground. Direct passes are faster, but you have to throw them just right and at the right time. A lot of players throw them into traffic instead of passing to an unguarded player, or too low/high, or too hard, and all of the above. An ideal pass shouldn't make a sound when the player catches it. It also helps to know who you're passing to. Some players can catch any pass, others can't catch on the move, others can only handle bounce passes, etc. Also, make simple passes. And 1 passes only work on mixtape tours and half the time it turns into a turnover, even in streetball/pickup ball. Any pass is good as long as it gets a score or leads to a play. Also pass to the open man, don't get into buddyball. Tons of players will only pass to certain people all game and the defense catches on. When that happens, you're on your way to losing.

#1 if youre closer that about 6 or 7 feet from the goal, and off to either the left or right (like a layup) use the backboard, but if youre farther out than about 10 feet, then definently shoot for the hole because if youre off by a little bit that far out then youll probably miss unless you get lucky...as far as where you aim, it depends on how you shoot, so you wanna go to your coach for where exactly to aim
#2 when you pass, like a far pass, or if there is noone near your teammate, you usually wanna pass straight to your them...if theyre under the goal, or someone is guarding them, then you want to bounce pass

youll get the hang of it the more you play and as you get better, then youll have more expierence and know what to do more often

well there is a chest pass which is directly to the person and the bounce pass you have to determind which pass should be used.
ifyou are trapped between 2 people use bounce pass if you see a wide open player and there is no one on you use chest pass.
den you have the long cross court pass thats a dangerous pass unless you have a clear fast break.a
and all beginngers should shoot for the square on the backboard or the center of the backboard the other stuff comes to you as you play more offen.
but you will never get good unless you practice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're shooting inside the "paint" or from the sides, always try to use the back board. If you're outside the "paint", aim for the back edge of the rim. As for passing the ball to a teammate, everyone can handle a bouce-pass.

Its easier to shoot that way i f you the back board, and it depends in what situwation your in at the time if you bounce pass it, directly pass it, or over head throw it

rather bounce it off the board cause than ther's less chance of the ball going in any old direction unless you're really good at aiming.
and when you're passing, bounce it off the ground cause then you making it a bit more difficult for your opponent to intercept.
if you master this- you can go on to learning all the tricks in the world.
