I think that it is natures way of telling us to take a bath when we feel the need to pick something. Just some people ignore the sign and pick away. Gross!
Nose-Blow it people please!
Ears- Q-tips

Because it's a nervous thing. I do it a lot when I'm nervous, not so much when I'm feeling fine. Plus if it's itchy, that's another reason.
And it's not because we're "decendants of apes". They live out in the wild. They have bugs crawling all over them. You think they enjoy the feeling of that? What about dogs and cats. They scratch their ears too...we must be decendants of them as well...:-|

I have to be honest, I have an obsession with picking ears. I see my sis once a week and when i do I pick her ears(with a cotton wool bud!). You know what I love it!!

because we are descendants of apes and that is how they groom and bond with each other.
also i think it has evolved into something we do almost sub-consciously now while we are thinking, feeling insecure, or just exercising a filthy habit! lol

cause its itchy and irritating. who in their right mind wants to put up with it. itch it and get it over and done with. you feel better afterwards. and i will openly admit to picking out a wedgie whenever it occurs, no matter where i am. i dont want freakin undies up my butt thanks.
