I think GTA 3. Because after that game came out, lots of companies
started making gta style game, meaning cloning. GTA 3 also had an unprecedented sales of 14 million copies. It was also "the best game of 2001". Yes, GTA Vice City and San Andreas are better than GTA 3, but don't forget who started it.
And now GTA series is the best selling, most loving, most owned series. People already started anticipating about GTA 4, coming on Oct 16, 2007.

The Final Fantasy Series, it got me really hooked into gaming but that being said Super Mario Brothers comes a close second, as those games are what made me like gaming in the first place.

Best games, in my opinion:
PS2:
1. Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War (Awesome storyline, great graphics and music, huge selection of planes, and easy to learn controls)
2. Medal Of Honor: Frontline (Good graphics, and the music really makes you feel like you're right in the thick of the action)
3. Medal Of Honor: European Assault (Takes everything that made MOH: Frontline good, and expands on them.)
4. Secret Weapons Over Normandy (Great storyline, cool characters, awesome musical score, and a great selection of flyable WWII aircraft)
Xbox:
1. Halo 1&2

Super Mario bros rock!! Also duck hunt. That game where you had the fake gun and had to shoot ducks on the screen.
Mortal combat is pretty good too.

hmmm, let's see you are asking for the best game ever made you i have a comment when you find a perfect Game has all the features of Need for Speed, Prince of Persia, Wining eleven, Devil may cry, metal gear solid, call of duty and final fantasy.

Street Fighter... Come on!! the fighting.. the super combos.. the hot characters.. and they had 3 movies.. i mean Ryu, Akuma, Ken, M.Bison.. all those charcaters.. they are the greatest... RIP Street Fighter!!1
