I'm not using this for my class, it's just an argument between me and my friends to prove that parents don't need these theories to raise their kids. It's natural for kids to grow up normally.

Learn Frued's life phases and when they occur and what they mean. Oral Stage, infancy, everything goes in the mouth. If something traumatic happens in that phase, the child could have an oral fixation for the rest of their lives. Anal Stage, 2 to about 6, potty training, if something traumatic happens to them during this stage, the child could be anal-retentive, or (i know) anal-explosive, not literally, of course. Latency Stage, 6 or so until puberty, child will forget about bodily functions and start forming friendships outside of the family. Genital Stage, adolescence, kids begin to experiment, and start forming their first romantic relationships. That's where Freud ends.

Try Erik Erikson, he has the same stages, but he included more life stages and expanded on Freud.

That's the best I could do from memory. My advice is to pay attention to the age of your child and try to notice what they are doing in relation to these phases. Try to head off behavior that is unacceptible at the same time try to think of the consequences of each phase, for example techniques for potty training and the lasting effects of the training.

Don't bother, having children is a selfish act, it's like saying "Look at us! Aren't we great! Let's create more of us!"
