The hurricane was a natural disaster. The government response was criminally stupid. I don't think the initial response was a race thing. I think the government was totally unprepared to help anyone; however, the fact that is over 1 year later and some of my friends down there (in a black neighborhood) still have no electricity or running water does make me wonder if they would have gotten help by now if they were white and lived in the Garden District.

To say that Hurricane Katrina was a conspiracy to wipe out Black people is a pretty racist comment. It is also very sad, that anyone would even entertain that thought. Those poor little babies in New Orleans that were stuck there for one reason or another, black, white, Hispanic all creeds and colors. Mothers that sat in parks swinging with their children because they did not have the money or the transportation to get out of the city. It is a shame that so many died. Did you happen to see the footage of the 60 buses that were ready to go that Mayor Nagen would not give permission to leave or at least have the forethought to move to higher ground to be used later. Or the Amtrak Train that left New Orleans empty before the storm. Amtrak had contacted Nagen and asked if he wanted to put people without transportation on the trains for evacuations, needless to say Amtrak left New Orleans empty before Katrina. Anyway, to answer your question it was a natural disaster and the State and Local Government horribly failed all the of the people of the City of New Orleans not just the black ones.

That is an offensive question. Hurricanes are a natural disaster with no ability to target a specific group of people. If that were the case you could claim that there is a larger conspiracy to wipe out all the older people living in Florida.

WHAT THE FLIP EVER. I'm so sick of this crap. Do you think that the government has a weather machine or something? This is not General Hospital, this is real life. Hurricanes happen. The people in New Orleans were given plenty of warning about it. That's just an ignorant question.

Why is it that a predominantly white state, Florida, gets hit by hurricane after hurricane and they never claim that it's anybody's fault but a predominantly black community gets hit once in a long time and it's suddenly a race issue? Whatever.

Giant conspiracy, we have been working on the weather machine since the Reagan administration. This took lots of planning, really, we had to find a black Mayor who we could count on to do absolutely nothing. We almost screwed up, we forgot about the hundreds of buses in the parking lot, luckily the Mayor did too. William Jefferson's little side trip to his house (tying up the relief/rescue personnel for hours) to get his bribe money out of the freezer was just a little unplanned bonus.

Now you have an answer that is as ridiculous as the question.

Ask Nagin. His actions are very suspicious. Mississippi evacuated low lying areas 48 hours before the storm hit, Nagin waited until a mere 19 hours to order the evacuation. Nagin knew many of the poor people didn't drive yet he didn't do anything to organize transportation for these people.

Mississippi activated the national Guard to help evacuate potentially affected areas 48 hours before the storm made landfall. Blanco didn't activate the national guard until the levees broke. They weren't activated to save lives, they helped fill sand bags and recover bodies. Why didn't Nagin ask for the National Guard when it was eveident he didn't have the resources to ensure the safety of his constituents? Why did Blanco wait so long before declaring a disaster area that would allow the federal government to allocate Guardsmen from other states.

The people of Lousiana and New Orleans were left to fend for themselves by two self serving public officials who neglected to discharge their responsibilities. And instead of indicting Nagin they relected him. In China a public official who is that incompetent, or negligent, to the point of killing so many citizens would spend 25 years in jail or even execution. In NO he gets another 4 years and another 4 hurricane seasons.

And what is the city's disaster plan now? There isn't one because Nagin spent the hurricane "off season" getting re-elected. And who was working tirelessly to get him back into office? The levee commissions who spent money on Nagin's fund raising dinners instead of on the levees, which is their sole function, to maintain the levees, not to act as a political dinner hosts.

But to directly answer your question, I don't think Nagin committed these acts as a way to wipe out the black citizens of his city, he is just terribly incompetent.

Here's the deal. No "true" person of color is ever gonna listen to what a "cracker" says and everyone knows this conditioning has been going on since the 1700's. So, G-dub-ya calls his buddy Thor and then has his "cronies" tell the ppl in N.O. what's happenin' in the ocean BUT they can stay or leave - their choice! You always want to give the appearance of choice!! I'm sure there's a memo or two floating around, just dig a bit deeper, you'll find it.

Puuuleeeze!!!! You get thumbs down on this one!!

ps: I'm not offended in the slightest! Hold that thought.

Are you serious? Can you say the same of hurricane Rita? That hurricane wiped out alot of property, People of every color. The levy's broke, they weren't built right anyway. Think about it, why would anyone build a city thats sits in a soup bowl? It was bound to happen sooner or later. Had nothing to do with the color of anyone
