....If, life is all about learning and reforming spiritually, then why is it that we are not able to recall any event from our past lives? ( if there are such lives in the first place!). Had we been able to rememeber our misdoings and known that we are being 'punished' for those particular wrong actions, don't u think that we would ammend our ways and become better individuals.?! Why go through this blind maze-like grind of getting the 'brickbats' for our past misdoings without knowing at all as to what those misdoings were. IMO, it would have been fascinating ( though limitedly so, as such a sense would also facilitate the retention of painful memories, I believe ) to have been endowed with the intellectual faculty of knowing our past lives- we would then know as to what reaction was exactly provoked by which action and halt this seemingly never-ending cycle of birth and rebirth ( if there is anything like this !). Do comment. Ty

As a thinking being rather an instinctual being, being born with the knowledge of a past life would only serve to deter the growth that could be experienced in this life. Karma does not necessarily transcend form life to life and therefore is built anew. Thus, good Karma in you rpresent life off-sets bad karma froma past life, etc.

If knowing the past is really needed, it will surface surely.
Else, it is enough to really know what we are right now. The very process of knowing it IN DEPTH would also tell us why we became like this, and what would have been done by us to become what we are. Also, the release from this Karmic body will naturally evolve, and with the new freedom, we would then on cheerfully proceed to dissolve the karma, and above that become better capable to help out even others !
It is deepening of one's perception levels beyond the sense organs which would help a person to know what he needs to know, not being limited by situation, or even the sense organs !

We don't remember our past lives because it would be too confusing. Karma is more the lessons that we learn from positive and negative experiences. If you've ever made a decision based on your insticts, that was your Karma, if you have an unnatural fear or phobia that you can't explain or experienced a feeling of de ja vue it may be a simular moment from your past life repeating itself. With all that we know and think and feel and invent and imagine we only use 3 to 5% of our brains. That leaves a vast area of the mind that is unexplored and untapped. Great storage facility, if not it would be an awful waste of space. JMO

Ordinarily one cannot remember his own past lives because of the traumatic experience of death and re birth. But there have been several instances when a person has remembered at least his immediate past life and asked to be taken to the place of his/her previous birth and identified the relations. In India there are naadi leaves which tell about a person and his course of life of the present.(it gives full detail of the persons place of birth family, father and mothers name number of siblings, husband /wife's name .Whether the spouse is alive or dead at the time of reading etc). The same leaves also explain the exact action performed by that person in previous birth for which he is being punished in the form of a suffering/disease/ poverty etc
you will have to read Gita the sacred scripture of the Hindus to understand How Karma works and the means of becoming free of the cycle of birth suffering death and rebirth.
There will be hardly one or two saints in this world who can honestly say"I am perfectly happy always"
This shows that any one may say i am happy, but will not be able to say that he is always perfectly happy. The quest of man is se this state of perfect happiness and all his efforts are unconciously aimed towrds it.
Yogi Ravi Shankar, and Gurumaa of Gannore india teach how to recall the past lives by meditation. if you are interested you may try.

Remembering the past, good or bad is not going to, in any way better the present, If one believes the theory of Action and reaction and that each action has its equivalent reaction then it is SO! Do good Be good and the life will be good!

I wondered the same thing. I think that to remember our past lives would distract us from the lessons to be learnt in the present life. It may be that during our time spent in the spirit world, we have already somewhat come to terms with the mistakes we made in our previous life. The purpose of our following life then, is not so much to repair damage done in the past, but to learn and develop new and totally different aspects of ourselves

Every choice that we make is stored in our causal body as a residue or seed which sooner or later comes up to germinate in our life, unless that choice is made out of pure love then there is no residual karma (Nishkama Karma) as universe partakes in our actions and choices then, in words our choices are made by the Universe or the energy of love, freeing us of all repercussions of our choices, so it is the intent behind our choices that is important and not just the choice itself.

But if we make a choice out of anger or disgust or even hate we are liable to experience a similar situation when we will have to make a different choice and make it out of love, and the moment we learn to do that we don’t go through similar experience ever again, in any life, that is why is essential to know that what is happening to me right now is not just residue but also a lesson for me to learn, a lesson to love and make choices out of pure love.

I believe in present life karma, not paying for or gaining anything from karma last life. So I do good this life and enjoy more out of life by having better luck with good karma. Givers gain.

The Seat of the Soul, by Gary Zukav, published in 1990 has some interesting theories on this subject. I don't necessarily agree with all he says, but have found some "thinking material" in his writings. His web sites are too commercial for me, but you may find something on them. Just goggle Gary Zukav. (I like www.dogpile.com more)
